Eighty Countries Call for Ukraine’s Territorial Integrity as Basis for Peace at Swiss Conference
At a Swiss conference, eighty countries jointly declared that the “territorial integrity” of Ukraine must be the foundation for any peace agreement to end Russia’s two-year war. This joint communique concluded a two-day meeting at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland, where Russia, notably absent and uninvited, was a significant focus. Attendees expressed hope that Russia might eventually join a roadmap to peace.
The conference drew about 100 delegations, predominantly from Western countries but also included key developing nations. Experts closely observed the proceedings to gauge support for the final outcome document, which emphasized nuclear safety, food security, and Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Notably, participants such as India, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates, represented by foreign ministers or lower-level envoys, did not sign the final document. Their absence underscored the complexities and varied perspectives on the path to peace in Ukraine.
