When a political campaign group carried out the act, the former prime minister was expressing her belief that Donald Trump would emerge victorious in the election for president of the United States.

At an event, Liz Truss stormed off stage when a banner that featured a lettuce and the words “I crashed the economy” was unfurled behind her. The flag was displayed directly behind her.

As part of her book tour, the former prime minister was in Beccles, Suffolk, on Tuesday evening, when the stunt was carried out by the campaign group Led By Donkeys. She was answering questions from the audience.

She was expressing her belief that Donald Trump would most likely win the election in the United States because “the average American is not doing well” when a banner fell from the ceiling behind her.

There was a reference to a lettuce in the image that the Daily Star had livestreamed to see if it had wilted before the end of her reign in 2022.

Following Ms. Truss’s resignation, which occurred only 49 days into her employment, the newspaper declared the lettuce to be the winner.

The tagline of the banner, which was tied to the economy, was a reference to her agenda of tax cuts and expenditure, which caused the economy of the United Kingdom to enter a state of crisis.

At first, Ms. Truss, who had been defeated in the election held in July and had lost her seat in South West Suffolk, did not notice the banner.

As a result, she appeared unimpressed and stated, “That’s not funny.” This occurred after she was made aware of the situation, and a few individuals began laughing.

Before leaving the stage, she grabbed her notes, removed her microphone, and walked away from the audience.

Upon her departure, there was a smattering of applause from the audience.

Liz Truss lost her Norfolk South West seat to the Labour Party in July.

Led By Donkeys asserted that they were the ones responsible for the act, and they shared a video of it on their social media accounts.

The statement read, “Liz Truss is currently on a speaking tour in support of Trump.” In order to accomplish this, we lowered a remote-controlled lettuce banner that was strategically placed.

In the beginning of this year, the group used a banner that was controlled remotely and included a photograph of the Russian president in order to disrupt a speech that was being given by Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK.

There was a message that stated, “I heart Putin.”

All of the members of Ms. Truss’s staff have stated that they will not be commenting on the stunt.
