“The people of Edo will not submit to the support of thugs and armoured tanks to vote,” declares Pedro Obaseki.

Despite documented efforts by opposing entities to disrupt the electoral process, the Edo State gubernatorial election has been recognised as a success for the electorate, as stated by Dr. Pedro Obaseki, the deputy director-general of the Asue Ighodalo Campaign. The observation was made considering the election’s characterisation as a triumph for the populace.

During a late-night interview with AIT on Thursday, Obaseki asserted that the electorate in Edo will successfully select their preferred candidate, notwithstanding the alleged intimidation tactics employed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and backed by federal security agencies. This assertion was made despite the apparent utilisation of these measures by the APC. This assertion was articulated despite the underlying support from government security agencies for the operations of the APC.

The claims come up during a time of rising tensions leading up to the election, along with worries about potential improper influence from federal authorities favouring the All Progressives Congress (APC). The allegations have been introduced within the framework of the election.

“As of 7:30 p.m., there are two armoured tanks positioned at the location of the former governor of Edo State one on each side along with approximately thirty police vehicles present, and a significant number of individuals identified as thugs are also on-site,” stated the former governor.

Nonetheless, given the absence of infrastructure in that area, the likelihood of success for this initiative appears minimal. The populace of Edo does not exhibit a fear of fear itself. We possess a systematic comprehension of the methods for engaging with these individuals and the protocols for interaction. Consequently, on election day, it is imperative that each individual proceeds to the polls to articulate their preferences, not due to the influence of various external parties but rather in defiance of such attempts.

When the populace of Edo faces challenges from entities attempting to undermine our authority, we mobilise and respond decisively. The rationale behind this is that we represent a collective that, historically, no community of African descent has managed to dominate.

The individuals intent on altering the collective will of our populace will face overwhelming resistance, and we will execute this with unwavering resolve. There is a likelihood that this event may occur in an alternate location; however, we are Edo, a lineage imbued with the essence of conquerors, and should any other party attempt to intervene, we will decisively eliminate their influence. Residents of Edo widely recognise that Asue Ighodalo serves as a guiding light as we assess and strategise for the uncertain future ahead.
