The Labour Party has promptly denied the circulating speculation regarding its gubernatorial candidate for Edo State, Olumide Akpata, allegedly withdrawing from the upcoming election scheduled for Saturday.

The Labour Party issued a statement late on Friday, categorically denying reports that its candidate, Olumide Akpata, had withdrawn from the race. The Labour Party characterised these assertions as a deliberate strategy aimed at disseminating misinformation, designed to obfuscate voter understanding and destabilise Akpata’s candidature.

The Labour Party has clearly indicated that Akpata remains fully dedicated to pursuing election candidature and spearheading efforts for advancement in Edo State. The organisation has released a statement denouncing the origins of the rumours and has charged other political entities with efforts to destabilise the positive trajectory that has garnered significant backing for Akpata’s candidature.

The assertions presented were as follows: “The allegations regarding Olumide Akpata’s resignation are entirely unfounded and lack any basis.”

Entities that have consistently put their interests ahead of those of the Edo people are disseminating the information because they are aware that the electorate is likely to support Akpata with a sizable majority.

The Labour Party has reiterated its commitment to the electoral process, emphasising that Akpata remains a strong contender and is actively pursuing positive change in Edo State. The statement provided voters with confidence in the party and its candidate’s dedication to realising their vision of effective governance and an improved future for the state.

We are confident in our ability to achieve a significant victory in this election, and the Labour Party, along with Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, remain steadfast in their commitment to this objective.

The Labour Party issued a concluding statement of optimism, reiterating its commitment to transparency and integrity, asserting, “Edo will be fine.”
