Barack Obama already has a stellar reputation as a girl dad, and his most recent birthday greeting to Malia, his eldest daughter, has only added to it.
Malia celebrated her 26th birthday on July 4th, and the former president officially wished her a happy birthday on Thursday by posting the cutest throwback photo to Instagram. As they strolled down the sidewalk in their matching denim outfits, a precious little Malia grabbed her dad’s hand and looked up at him lovingly. In contrast to Malia’s denim jacket and blue-and-white floral blouse, Barack Obama sported a chambray button-down and khaki slacks.
“Happy birthday, Malia. One of the greatest joys of my life is watching you grow into the extraordinary woman you’ve become today—and the fact that you’re still willing to hold your dad’s hand in public!” Barack captioned the heartwarming dad-daughter photo.
At the same time, Michelle, his wife, delved even further into the family album to create her Instagram tribute to Malia. “Happy birthday, Malia! No matter how old you get, you’ll always be my little pea and I’ll always be proud of you,” Michelle wrote alongside a picture of Malia holding a stuffed bunny as a toddler. “You deserve the world and more.”
Feeling much older now, Malia and Sasha, who are younger, are filmmakers and TV writers who reside in California. Malia stepped out on the red carpet at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, wearing a long gray coat, black pants, and a button-down shirt, to debut her short film, The Heart. In keeping with her understated style, she wore thick brown boots and a thin scarf around her neck.
