The year that the Titanic sank was the year that John Alfred Tinniswood was born. He has lived through both world wars and the tenure of twenty-four prime ministers in the United Kingdom.

John Alfred Tinniswood, who resides in Southport, attributes his long life to “just luck” and stated that he did not adhere to a particular diet. However, he does consume fish and chips on Fridays.

The year 1912 was the same year that the Titanic sank, and Tinniswood was born in that same year. At the beginning of this year, he surpassed Juan Vicente Pérez, who was 114 years old and from Venezuela, and became the oldest living man in the world. Pérez passed away in April.

Tinniswood had previously held the distinction of being the oldest man in the United Kingdom, which he acquired in the year 2020.

Having been a supporter of the Liverpool football team for his whole life, Tinniswood was born in the city just twenty years after the team was established. He has experienced practically all of the good times and bad times that the club has had, including all eight of the Reds’ victories in the FA Cup and the majority of their victories in the league.

At a dance in the city, he was introduced to his future wife, Blodwen, and the couple remained together for a total of 44 years before she passed away in 1986. When their daughter Susan was born in 1943, he became a great-grandfather. Susan was born in 1943.

Tinniswood, who served in an administrative capacity for the Army Pay Corps during the Second World War, has the record for being the oldest male veteran of the war who is still alive today. He participated in both of the world wars.

His subsequent career included stints as an accountant for Shell and BP, from which he retired in 1972.

The majority of Tinniswood’s life is still lived without assistance; he is responsible for his own financial management, he stays informed about current events by listening to the radio, and he gets out of bed every morning by himself.

He is unable to attribute his good health and longevity to anything other than pure chance, and it is possible that an active lifestyle when he was younger also contributed to his longevity. At the time when he became the holder of the Guinness World Record earlier this year, he made the following statement: “You either live long or you live short, and there is not much you can do about it.”

“That age does not feel like it to me, and I do not get enthusiastic about it. Probably because of that, I’ve arrived at this point,” he continued. As with everything else, I just take it in stride and move on with my life. I have no idea how I managed to survive for such a long time.

“I am unable to think of any unique secrets that I carry with me. I used to walk a lot when I was younger because I was a really active child then. Whether or not that was connected to it is something that I am not aware of. To me, however, I am not any different from anyone else. Exactly the same as before.”

He reflected on his long life and concluded that probably the most important thing was to practice moderation in everything that you do. “I consume anything they provide me with, and everyone else does as well. According to him, “I do not follow any kind of diet.”

“If you do too much of anything, whether it be drinking too much, eating too much, or walking too much, you are going to experience some kind of negative consequences in the long run.”

Since the late queen turned 100 in 2012, Tinniswood has been the recipient of a birthday card from the late queen on an annual basis. His reign lasted longer than hers, despite the fact that she was born approximately 14 years after him. In addition to that, he has witnessed the first 24 prime ministers of the United Kingdom.

He responded, “The world, in its way, is always changing,” when he was questioned about the ways in which he has witnessed the world evolving over the course of his lifetime. In a sense, it is an experience that never ends. To a certain extent, it is improving, but not by a significant amount just yet. It’s heading in the correct direction.”

“Always do the best you can, whether you’re learning something or whether you’re teaching someone,” he stated in response to a question on the advice he would provide to younger generations. Put in your absolute best effort. If not, it is not anything that should be bothered with.
