A number of witnesses saw him cliff diving at a reservoir in the vicinity, and they reported him to the authorities after he did not come back to the surface. It was at 9:05 p.m. Mountain Time that a dive team from the Utah Department of Public Safety discovered his body. At that time, a search was already beginning.

As a fifth-year senior, Seldon was beginning his first season at Utah State University. He was a cornerback to begin with. In his time as a player at New Mexico State, he served as the captain of the squad. Additionally, he collaborated with Nate Dreiling, who was serving as the defensive coordinator at New Mexico State University at the time but is now serving as the interim head coach and defensive coordinator for Utah State.

In a statement released by the school, Dreiling expressed his sorrow, saying, “Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our beloveds.” “I can tell you that Andre was a wonderful person and colleague since I had a previous relationship with him while we were both attending New Mexico State. At the time, we were both students. We are grieving alongside Andre’s family at this tremendous loss, and our condolences and prayers are with them during this heartbreaking time.

On Sunday morning, Dreiling updated his X post with additional information regarding his former player.

I don’t think there was ever a time when I didn’t wind up smiling after having a talk with Andre. One of the most wonderful individuals I have ever interacted with. He was someone who meant a great deal to a great number of people, and being in his presence always made you feel better. A great number of people followed Seldon’s example, recalling him as a pleasant and courteous individual who was always prepared to devote his time to the media.

During the years 2022 and 2023, Andre Seldon was a student to NM State. Everyone, including his teammates, coaches, fans, and members of the media, had nothing but praise for him. Andre was one of the few people I’ve covered who I thought of with the same level of admiration as I did. A fantastic footballer who is also a very perceptive and genuine individual. I am going to miss him. R.I.P.

There are times when you find yourself fanatically supporting the athletes you cover. My first choice for an interview was Seldon, who was a clear leader on the squad during his brief time at New Mexico State University. My dealings with him and his father were always enjoyable, and I extend my sympathies to Andre Seldon’s family upon his passing.

A great talent at Belleville High School in Belleville, Michigan, Seldon, whose age was not disclosed by the institution, performed exceptionally well in his academic career. Following his graduation, he enrolled at the University of Michigan, where he played for a period of two years before going on to transfer to New Mexico State in 2022.
