Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s 100m hurdles world record holder, has been clear throughout to run at the Paris Olympics since the sport’s supreme court dismissed an appeal on Friday against a decision clearing her of a doping offence.
Twenty-seven-year-old Amusan was charged in July 2023 with missing three anti-doping tests in 12 months, but she was cleared of the offense by the Disciplinary Tribunal of athletics governing body World Athletics.
World Athletics, however continued to argue the decision alongside the World Anti-Doping Agency and appealed to the higher instance – Court of Arbitration for Sport. CAS has now disclosed that its panel “unanimously acknowledged that the athlete committed two filing failures but did not confirm the existence of a missed test, alleged by WA and WADA, which would have been the third Whereabouts Failure committed within 12 months.”
Amusan had established a world record time of 12.12 seconds when winning the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, last July. Last year, she ended up sixth at the world championships in Budapest. As mandated by the anti-doping rules and regulations, any athlete failing to declare their whereabouts for a doping test on three occasions over a 12-month time period is declared ineligible for competition for a two-year period.
