It is well known that the Russian national deceived the wealthy people of New York by pretending to be a German heiress in order to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Anna Sorokin, a Russian con artist who defrauded New York’s elite by pretending to be a German heiress and fooling them out of hundreds of thousands of euros, has been seen at a fashion show wearing a bejewelled ankle tag.
Over the course of several years, Sorokin, who is now 33 years old, deceived hotels, banks, and friends into providing financial support for her extravagant lifestyle by deceiving them into believing that she was a wealthy German heiress named Anna Delvey.
She was taken into custody in 2017, and in April 2019, she was found guilty of eight offences, one of which was grand larceny. She was sentenced to between four and twelve years in prison.
Since October 2022, when she began her home arrest in the midst of a deportation case, Sorokin has been wearing the ankle tag. Her family relocated from Russia to Germany in 2007.
Sorokin posed for shots while wearing the black bejewelled tag that was attached to her right calf when she was attending the Untitled&Co runway show that took place on Wednesday at New York Fashion Week.
Additionally, she attended the occasion wearing a miniskirt and a tiara.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that she would be participating in the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars, which will make its debut on September 17 on both ABC and Disney+.
It would appear that the show is putting a lot of emphasis on the ankle bracelet, as a picture of Sorokin wearing a sparkling outfit was released, which clearly displayed the tag that was attached to her leg.
In spite of the fact that Sorokin was released from prison in February 2021, immigration authorities assert that she has overstayed her visa and must be sent back to Germany, where she was born.
Before a judge approved the transfer of her to home confinement in October 2022, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had been holding her in custody for more than a year. This will allow her to continue to resist deportation while she is in custody.
The Netflix hit show Inventing Anna, which starred Julia Garner as the con artist, made the con artist Sorokin’s attempt to pose as a wealthy German heiress the main focus in 2022.
Juda Engelmayer, a representative for Sorokin, acknowledged on Tuesday that she was permitted to go anywhere in the five boroughs of New York City and within 70 miles (112 kilometres) of her home base under the restrictions of her former house arrest. However, she was unable to comment on any adjustments that may have been made to those rules after they were initially implemented.
Sorokin was required to comply with the immigration judge’s condition that she refrain from using social media while she was under house arrest. Despite this, she began a podcast called The Anna Delvey Show, which featured guests such as the comedian Whitney Cummings and the technology journalist Taylor Lorenz, both of whom travelled to her apartment in New York to record.
“So many people became famous for bad things and were able to kind of segue it into something different,” she said in an interview with the Associated Press to be conducted in June of 2023.
