Aston Villa have completed the signing of Netherlands defender Ian Maatsen from fellow Premier League side Chelsea, the Midlands club said on their official website on Friday.
There was no mention of the fee, but several British media sources mentioned that Maatsen had moved to Villa in a deal worth £37.5 million ($47.4 million, 44.3 million euros).
The 22-year-old left-back played for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final when they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid at Wembley while on loan from Stamford Bridge earlier this month. He is currently with the Netherlands at Euro 2024 in Germany following a call-up into the squad as a replacement for injured Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong.
Maatsen is the second player Villa manager Unai Emery has signed in the pre-season transfer window to date, following the arrival of forward Lewis Dobbin from Everton.
Villa are now preparing for Champions League football courtesy of their fourth placed finish in the Premier League last season .
Maatsen made 16 appearances in the Bundesliga and seven in the Champions League for Dortmund, including scoring in the German club’s European quarter-final win over Atletico Madrid.
He also made 12 appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea last season, having previously been loaned out to triple English clubs in Charlton, Coventry and Burnley.
