A dozen tourists have been banned for life from China’s Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding due to bad behavior, including throwing cigarettes and spitting. The bans, affecting individuals aged 26 to 61, were announced on the Research Base’s official WeChat account. The pandas remain fine and healthy.
The Research Base has not disclosed the identities or nationalities of the banned tourists. The offenses, which occurred between April and June, were committed by separate individuals.
The popular tourist attraction in Chengdu has strict visitor guidelines, emphasizing safety and respect for the animals. Violations can result in penalties ranging from criticism and education to one-year, five-year, or lifetime bans.
Founded in 1987 in Sichuan province, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding aims to be a world-class research facility, conservation education center, and international educational tourism destination. The base is designed to replicate the natural habitat of giant pandas, which are native to China.
