David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is an afrobeats artist who has expressed his significant interest in the governorship election that is now taking place in Edo State.
In reaction to the news that a sizeable number of voters participated in the off-cycle election for governor that took place on Saturday, September 21st, across the entirety of Edo State, this is a response to the news.
On X, Davido has been a consistent opponent of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the organisation of engaging in unethical practices throughout the election. Davido has made this accusation on multiple occasions. Given that he is not the state, many people found his involvement perplexing and wondered why he was so involved in the race for Edo State. This was due to the fact that he is not the state.
In answer to the enquiries that were conducted through his X handle, Davido clarified that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, was originally from the state of Edo. This information was shared in response to the enquiries that were posed.
He proceeded by stating that in addition to his personal connection with the situation through his mother, he also feels obligated to be concerned since he is a citizen of Nigeria. He said this with the intention of expressing his worry.
In addition, Davido said that he had previously expressed similar comments about the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the Osun State gubernatorial election, which was held in which Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, was a candidate.
“My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election… but we as Nigerians should be concerned, sha .. @inecnigeria, shame on you. I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun ! It’s really bad. God help us,” he stated.
