According to the artist, who was born and raised in Suffolk and has been a fan of the team for his whole life, he expressed his “really excited” reaction to the move. This news comes at a time when the team is getting ready to make its first appearance in the Premier League in twenty-two years.
Apparently, Ed Sheeran has acquired a 1.4% stake in Ipswich Town. This information has been disclosed.
The football club has announced that the singer, who has sponsored the team’s shirts since 2021, has signed on as a “passive” investor and will not join the board.
Sheeran, on the other hand, will be granted benefits as a result of the agreement, including the opportunity to utilise his very own individualised executive box at the Portman Road stadium for an extended period of time.
This news comes just a few days before the Tractor Boys will make their return to the Premier League this coming Saturday, following a gap of 22 years.
In addition, the celebrity made his own announcement regarding the transaction by uploading a video to Instagram in which he celebrated by driving a tractor across a field.
According to reports, a private equity business located in the United States purchased a 44% stake in the club for a reported sum of £105 million earlier this year. This may indicate that the singer’s stake is worth more than £2 million.
Sheeran, who was born and raised in the neighbouring town of Framlingham and has been a follower of the Suffolk club for his whole life, expressed his “really excited” reaction to the transfer.
He went on to say, “Being the owner of the football club that you support is a dream come true for any football fan, and I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to do so.”
Being a supporter of Ipswich Town is a source of great pleasure. Despite the fact that there are highs and lows, the most important thing in football is to learn to accept both.
“I’m not a voting shareholder or a board member; this is just me putting some money into the club I love and them returning the gesture, so please don’t get on to me with signing suggestions or tactics to play.”
“A very happy day for the club.”
During Ipswich’s meteoric rise under the direction of Northern Irish manager Kieran McKenna, the team’s shirts have been branded with the emblem of the singer’s ongoing Mathematics global tour.
Since taking over as the head of Ipswich’s senior management team for the first time, McKenna has been successful in securing two consecutive promotions for the club, first from League One to the Championship and thereafter to the Premier League.
Sheeran rewarded the team with a private concert and party when the team received an automatic promotion earlier this year. More recently, it was reported that Sheeran had also contributed to the design of the team’s new “Suffolk pink” third outfit.
A United States investment consortium known as Gamechanger 20 Ltd. was the club’s biggest shareholder, and the singer was able to acquire his interest through them.
Mark Ashton, chairman and chief executive officer of Ipswich Town, gave the following statement: “This is an extremely proud day for the football club.”

“The support Ed and his team have shown us over the last three years has been nothing short of remarkable and for him to make this investment in the club feels like the natural progression in our relationship.”
He added: “For one of the biggest artists in the world to give us so much of his time and give the club such incredible exposure around the world, while asking for very little in return, highlights just what makes this relationship such a special one.”
