For the first time in 16 years, Turkey made its way to the knockout phase of a major tournament after racking up a bad-tempered 2-1 win over battling 10-man Czech Republic at Euro 2024 on Wednesday. Vincenzo Montella’s second-placed finishes in Group F behind Portugal saw Turkey through, while the Czechs went home despite the gutsy performance on this sweltering Hamburg night.
Georgia also advanced as one of the best third-placed teams after a sensational 2-0 win over Portugal in the group’s other final game, relegating Hungary to also-ran status
