Launching a new fragrance with HSN, Jaclyn Smith draws inspiration from her favorite people and things.

The 78-year-old Charlie’s Angels star is pleased with her new JACKIE by Jaclyn Smith fragrance, releasing on July 24.

I find it genuine. From my heart and for my family, especially my mother, who introduced me to perfumes as a child. She adored fragrance, and hers resembled this one. From my garden and travels. This excites me.”

Classics and wearability are the defining characteristics of Jaclyn Smith’s newest HSN collection: “Comfort Is Important.”

In addition, Smith’s new scent was influenced by a romantic present that she received from her husband, Brad Allen, many years ago. The gift was a vacation to France that he had purchased for her. She claims that he surprised her by taking her to a little shop, where she was able to combine her own aromatic oils into a single fragrance that was distinctively her own signature composition.

“I came up with a fragrance that I liked, and I wore it for maybe 15 years, but then I couldn’t get the oils anymore,” according to her. “So when the opportunity came up to create my own fragrance, I knew I wanted to recreate something I had done years ago in a true fragrance, not as an oil.”

The end result is JACKIE, which was written by Jaclyn Smith. According to her, it took at least fifty attempts to get it just right. There are top notes of bergamot, aldehydes, and amber in the 3.4-ounce bottle, heart notes of ylang-ylang, orris, and French rose, and base notes of earthy musk, sandalwood, and heliotrope. The bottle has a retail price of $75.

According to Smith, she would first wear each note alone in order to get a better understanding of how every single one smelled, and then she would work on combining them. This was done before she finally found the perfect combination. The finished product is precisely what she had envisioned it would be, and not only is her husband pleased with the accomplishment, but Smith’s granddaughter Bea, who is seven years old, is also pleased with it.

Being that her young granddaughter revealed in a school assignment that her grandmother (whom she fondly calls “Mimi”) smells so good, Smith stated on Instagram on June 27 that Bea was also one of her inspirations for the scent. She said this since her granddaughter found out that her grandmother smelled so good!

In an interview with PEOPLE, Smith declares, “That was one of the best compliments I’ve ever received.” Is it clear to you what I mean? For a young girl of that age to be able to tune into a really personal aspect of me is not something that happens very often. “Mom, Mom, I need to step up my game!” my daughter says to me during the game.

In a manner that is analogous to the manner in which Bea gushes over Smith for her beautiful aroma, Smith too has fond recollections of her childhood and the perfumes that her mother, Margaret Ellen Hartsfield, used to wear. She was almost never without either Shalimar or Jicky from Guerlain, according to Smith, who claims that these two fragrances were her go-tos.

“Fragrance was always a part of my young life because she loved it,” Smith says in her statement. The fact that our house is usually filled with aromas is the reason why I have always associated scents with my mother. Additionally, whenever she came to see me, I would assist her in unpacking, and the aroma would be present in her suitcase.

While Smith is reminiscing about the wonderful times she spent with her mother, she takes a momentary pause and then proceeds to say, “Fragrance in a way speaks before you speak, and it leaves a memory.” I adore the fact that it leaves a memory behind.
