Kim Kardashian is a veritable chameleon of fashion. She was a picture of the times when she first became well-known in the aughts, dressing in bandage dresses by Hervé Léger and wearing slender jeans with enormous platforms. We eventually got used to her athleisure and neutrals, sponsored by Yeezy. However, Kardashian has now entered a new stage of her fashion career and is looking to none other than John Galliano for guidance.
In January, Kardashian (together with sister Kylie Jenner and mother Kris Jenner) made an unexpected appearance at the Margiela Artisanal show, wearing in a black dress with cutouts and paillettes. The most striking aspect of her appearance, however, were her black, hoof-like Tabi heels—a collaboration between Maison Margiela and Christian Louboutin—complete with the distinctive cleft toe. Galliano dressed Kardashian in Margiela once more for the 2024 Met Gala, this time in a metallic chainmail dress with a gray shrug and a (very) corseted waist.
Kardashian is already incorporating Margiela’s distinctive Tabis into her everyday life. While out in Los Angeles on Wednesday, the reality actress and entrepreneur dressed casually in an unzipped charcoal windbreaker that revealed a black bra, matching baggy leggings with grommets lining the hem, and sleek black sunglasses. When it came to her shoes, she chose a pair of tropical flip flops—albeit the Tabi kind. The thong sandal has an exaggerated split toe and sells for $400.
How else will John Galliano’s Maison Margiela influence Kim Kardashian’s style evolution? Keep an eye on this area.
