Mary Earps will leave Manchester United Women when her contract expires to sign for Paris Saint-Germain. Earps has spent the last five years at United, but that current deal has been hurtling towards its conclusion as summer draws near. Discussions have been ongoing for the last two years between United and England No 1, but no agreement on a new deal has been reached with the stopper.
Earps did help United win the Women’s FA Cup last season as the club put up an uninspiring Women’s Super League display for a fifth-place finish.
United rejected a world-record offer for a goalkeeper in women’s football when Arsenal made an approach for Earps last year.
Earps became the third big name to leave United on a free transfer in the last year after Alessia Russo and Ona Batlle left the club last season.
PSG had an initial interest in signing the 31-year-old England goalkeeper during the January window.
The interest from the French side had been strongest among the host of clubs wanting Earps since she had been able to talk to other teams in January.
The signing marks the start of what promises to be a busy summer at PSG with Griege Mbock also set to join from rivals Lyon.
It means the 2024 summer window for transfer in the Premier League and Scottish Premiership is now officially open.
The window will slam shut on August 30 at 11pm UK time in England and at 11.30pm in Scotland.
The Premier League and Scottish Premiership then brought Deadline Day forward by a fortnight over the past few years to link up with the other major leagues in Europe. The closing dates were set following discussions with the leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
