Nick Cannon is discussing the insecurities he experienced while in a relationship with his former wife, Mariah Carey.

On Thursday, Oct. 24, the Wild ‘n Out star, 44, appeared on the Ray Daniels Presents podcast, where he discussed his separation from the singer, 55, and revealed that he questioned his own identity following their marriage in 2008.

“I didn’t truly care about the world’s opinion because perception is simply what it is.” “People will adore you one day and despise you the next,” Cannon remarked during the episode. “I couldn’t care less about that.” … However, confronting myself with the weight of, ‘Who am I?’

I got married in my twenties, you know what I mean? “To the greatest star in the world,” he added.

“My path was here,” he remarked, pointing downwards, “and then hers — she’s already in an entirely different realm.”

Cannon expressed that he found it challenging to establish his own identity apart from their relationship, while also admitting that he became quite “comfortable” with Carey, humorously noting, “She’s got islands, and I’m waking up at noon and people are bringing me steaks on a platter.”

“I would lie awake at night pondering, ‘Is this truly who I am?” Am I the man for Mariah? Is that what my life is meant to be? Cannon stated. “It is perfectly fine.”

The actor expressed that he faced challenges regarding his masculinity and the “hierarchy” within their family following the arrival of their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, in April 2011.

“I’m holding a purse and the diaper bag, and here I am, standing on the corner thinking, ‘Wait.’ “She’s excelling in her role as the alpha,” Cannon added, nodding in agreement when the podcast host remarked, “She deserves it.”

She definitely requires someone like that. “I’m simply not that guy,” Cannon added.

Cannon and Carey initially formed a romantic bond in early 2008 when the actor appeared in the singer’s “Bye Bye” music video. They tied the knot in May 2008, just a few months after they began dating.

In 2014, they revealed their decision to divorce after six years of marriage.

The two have openly discussed their relationship in the past. In 2020, Carey published her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. She detailed her whirlwind marriage to Cannon and revealed what first attracted her to him.

“He was a decent person.” He had a strong foundation in his beliefs. “He had great aspirations,” she remembered. He had spent many years in the entertainment industry, which gave him insight into the chaos. He focused on me.

“Honestly, I believe Nick and I could have resolved our issues privately, but our egos and emotions became heightened (which often leads to numerous billable lawyer hours, and in this case, it certainly did),” Carey mentioned in the book. It was challenging. We both aimed to ensure that everything was fine for our family. We will forever be a family, and we find a way to make it work.

In August of this year, Cannon shared with E! News: “We belong together.” He expressed that he would “absolutely” reunite with Carey and remarked that it would “be foolish if [he] didn’t.”

However, Cannon playfully remarked to the outlet, “She doesn’t want me.” Shortly after, he explained, “She’s moved on from my wild behaviour.”

Carey has been involved in multiple long-term relationships since then. Cannon, in the meantime, has embraced the arrival of 10 additional children with various other partners.
