PRP Denounces Monetization of Nigeria’s Electoral System
The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has voiced concerns over the monetization of Nigeria’s electoral processes. In a Democracy Day statement, acting national publicity secretary Comrade Muhammed Ishag remarked on the 25 years of uninterrupted civilian rule in Nigeria.
Reflecting on this milestone, the PRP acknowledged that while the return to civilian rule is significant, the expected advancements in social democracy and civic rights have not been realized. Instead, there has been a regression in these areas, along with a decline in material wellbeing, indicating that Nigeria’s democracy remains a work in progress.
The recent general elections highlighted significant challenges, including the monetization of the electoral process, lack of transparency, and voter disenfranchisement. These issues, according to the PRP, undermine the foundation of democracy. The party called for immediate action to rectify these problems and ensure true power resides with the people.
The PRP urged civil society organizations, professional associations, and community groups to mobilize and demand better governance. The party emphasized the need for a participatory, inclusive, and accountable democracy, advocating for a collective effort to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance for a brighter future for all Nigerians.
