Ogun PDP Turmoil: Akinlade Tells Adebutu to Hold Off Governorship Ambitions Until 2035

The problems in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Ogun State have gotten worse as former governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu and his running mate Adekunle Akinlade keep arguing about who should lead the state in the future. Adekunle Akinlade, who ran for deputy governor in the last election, told Ladi Adebutu in public on Saturday that he should put his plans to become governor on hold until 2035. However, this statement has caused even more disagreement within the party, which shows how hard it is for the Ogun PDP to stay united.

This was said by Akinlade in an interview with the media. He stressed that Adebutu should step back and let the party grow by letting other people lead. A prominent person in Ogun politics named Akinlade said that Adebutu’s repeated attempts to get the governorship ticket have caused problems within the PDP and made members unhappy. He talked about how the party needs a new kind of leadership that puts everyone’s needs and the needs of the people of Ogun State first.

There has been a fight between Akinlade and Adebutu for a long time. The reason for this is what happened after the 2023 governorship race, when the PDP lost to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Adebutu, who was the party’s standard bearer, had a tough campaign. He was accused of financial wrongdoing and there were problems within the party that hurt his chances of becoming governor. Adebutu’s running mate, Akinlade, has since said that he is worried about the party’s direction and Adebutu’s continued impact.

During his speech, Akinlade said that the PDP in Ogun State needs a new look, which can only happen if Adebutu steps down for now. The politician Akinlade said, “Ladi Adebutu has done his best for the party, but it is time for him to step down as leader.” Preparing for the future is important for the PDP, but we can’t do that if we keep relying on the same people who have failed in the past. I think that the party will be stronger by 2035, and Adebutu will have another chance to become governor.

Some people in the party don’t agree with Akinlade’s idea that Adebutu wait until 2035. Some people agree that the party needs a new leader to get it going again, while others think Akinlade’s comments are an attempt to shut Adebutu and his fans out of the party. Many people see Adebutu as a key figure in the PDP’s efforts to beat the APC in Ogun State. He has a long history in politics and has a lot of support within the party. His followers say that Akinlade’s comments cause division and could hurt the party’s chances in future elections even more.

The fight between Akinlade and Adebutu shows the bigger problems the PDP is having in Ogun State. Since the 2019 and 2023 governorship races, when there were internal fights and claims of wrongdoing, the party has had a hard time putting on a united front. The PDP has had a hard time competing with the APC, which has been in power in Ogun State for years, because the party members don’t work well together.

Political experts have said that the crisis in the Ogun PDP is a sign of bigger problems the party is having across the country. The PDP has had similar problems in other states, where power struggles within the party have made it less believable as an alternative to the ruling APC. The rivalry between Adebutu and Akinlade in Ogun State could make it harder for the party to rebuild and get new members in the long run.

Ladi Adebutu is very upset about being told to wait until 2035. Adebutu has put a lot of time and money into his political career and has been an important figure in Ogun State politics for a long time. He has been clear about his desire to become governor since his first try in 2019, and he has worked hard to get support from people all over the state. But his repeated failures to win the governorship have made people wonder if he can really be elected and if another candidate might be better at leading the PDP to victory.

Adekunle Akinlade’s attitude, on the other hand, shows that more and more people in the party think things need to change. Before joining the PDP, Akinlade ran for governor as a member of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). He has since become a liberal voice within the party. Some people think that his request for Adebutu to step down was an attempt to set himself up for future leadership in the PDP, maybe as the party’s next candidate for governor.

The future of the PDP in Ogun State will probably depend on how this internal fight turns out. If the party can work out its differences with Akinlade and Adebutu, it might be able to give the APC a tougher fight in the next election. If the crisis lasts, though, it could make the party even weaker and hurt its chances of taking back power in Ogun State.

In the meantime, the people of Ogun State are paying close attention to how the PDP handles this time of internal unrest. A lot of people in the area are hopeful that the party can get past its problems and become a real option to the APC, especially when it comes to infrastructure, education, and health care. At this point, though, everyone is still wondering if Ladi Adebutu will listen to Adekunle Akinlade’s advice and wait until 2035 to run for governor, or if he will keep going with his plans to lead the state.
