After stops in London, Florence, and Milan, Paris Fashion Week Men’s 2024 is the final destination of this season’s menswear tour. Kicking off the event, Pharrell Williams presented his third collection as menswear creative director for Louis Vuitton.
The ‘Symbolic Globe’ at Paris’ Maison de l’UNESCO served as the centerpiece for Pharrell Williams’ collection for Louis Vuitton. This showcase highlighted Williams’ expansive vision for the French fashion house and included a plea for global unity. The slogan ‘le monde est à vous’ stands for “the world is yours” featured prominently throughout the collection.
Pharrell Williams described the look of his latest Louis Vuitton collection as ‘Global Dandy’, drawing inspiration from various travel-related uniforms. This included bomber and flight jackets with silk neckerchiefs for ‘the pilot’ and sleek double-breasted tailoring with ties and trench coats for ‘the diplomat’. Luxurious reimaginings of workwear were also prominent, alongside pieces reminiscent of competitive sportswear, such as a football shirt emblazoned with ‘LVERS United’. This nod to the upcoming Paris Olympics, for which LVMH is a premium partner, highlighted the theme of global community.
Williams emphasized that the colors in his Louis Vuitton collection were designed to evoke a range of skin tones, including the deepest black created by the Louis Vuitton Studio. The theme of ‘skin’ was prevalent throughout the collection, with woven fabrics reminiscent of animal hides. His signature ‘Damoflage’ pattern, which transforms the house’s damier check into a camouflage print, was reimagined as ‘Snake-o-Flage’, inspired by python skin. Additionally, iconic Louis Vuitton bags like the Alma, Christopher, and Neverfull were recreated in soft, tactile leather.
The show was soundtracked by a new composition from Pharrell Williams, performed by a live orchestra and gospel choir. Similar to his first show on Paris’ Pont Neuf nearly a year ago, it reached a shuddering crescendo as Williams took his gleeful final bow, leaving guests eager for a glimpse. Twelve months after his blockbuster debut in Paris, Williams continues to be one of menswear’s biggest attractions.
