By the evening of Sunday, 23rd June, the two teams that will contest for the women’s trophy in this year’s President Federation Cup will be known, following today’s semi-final matches in Enugu and Awka.
The in-form Rivers Angels, not strange to winning ways in the land in the women’s version of the oldest cup competition, will confront bitter rivals Delta Queens in Awka. Newly sensational Remo Stars Ladies will tango with landladies Naija Ratels of Abuja at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. Both matches will kick off at 4pm.
The runners-up last year, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, tore Osun Babes to shreds 5-0 in an imperious performance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, on Wednesday, about the same time that Nasarawa Amazons were falling to a penalty shootout by Remo Stars Ladies in Benin City. Naija Ratels also suffered jitters of penalty shootout before they packaged FC Robo Queens of Lagos out at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
Their earlier match in Benin City ended with a 2-0 blow as Delta Queens came on hard at Sunshine Queens of Akure, but all the arsenal would go out to see off Rivers Angels in Sunday’s action at Awka.
The grand finale of both competitions has been slated for the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Saturday, 29th June—the first time the grand finale of Nigeria’s oldest Cup competition will be held in the city.
