Sean Rafferty to Depart Radio 3 After Three Decades
Sean Rafferty is set to leave BBC Radio 3 next April, concluding a remarkable 28-year tenure on the station’s flagship programme, In Tune, which he began hosting in 1997. The BBC announced his departure, marking the end of an era for the beloved Northern Irish broadcaster.
Rafferty expressed his sentiments in a statement, saying he would “truly miss” hosting the show, which features a rich blend of interviews, live performances, and classical repertoire. His departure is anticipated with a mix of nostalgia and admiration for his contributions over nearly three decades.
Replacing Rafferty will be Petroc Trelawny, the current voice of BBC Radio 3’s breakfast show, who will join In Tune alongside co-presenter Katie Derham. Trelawny’s transition to the new role promises to bring a fresh perspective while maintaining the high standards set by Rafferty.
As Sean Rafferty bids farewell, listeners and colleagues alike will celebrate his legacy and the profound impact he has had on classical music broadcasting.
