Security Guard on Trial for Plotting to Abduct, Rape, and Murder TV Personality Holly Willoughby

A security guard, Gavin Plumb, 37, stands accused of plotting to abduct, rape, and murder TV personality Holly Willoughby, fulfilling his “ultimate fantasy,” as revealed in court. The allegations cover the period between 2021 and 2023, during which Plumb allegedly assembled a kit for “highly sexualized” violence against the former This Morning presenter.

Plumb, from Harlow, Essex, is currently on trial at Chelmsford Crown Court. He denies the charges of soliciting murder, inciting kidnap, and inciting rape.

Prosecutor Alison Morgan KC stated that Plumb’s plans were not mere fantasies but carefully thought-out schemes. Plumb is said to have developed an “obsession” with Willoughby, intending to kidnap her, subject her to repeated rape, and ultimately murder her.

Plumb’s arrest came after he disclosed his plot to an undercover police officer from the US, believing he was communicating with a like-minded individual. Initially, Plumb shared his plan with a man known only as Marc in 2021, expressing his desire to live out his fantasy.

Evidence presented in court includes Plumb’s purchase of 400 heavy-duty metal cable ties and a voice note sent to Marc in March 2023. In the note, Plumb detailed his plan to abduct Willoughby and her husband, chloroform them, and force her to make a video indicating her consent to the crimes.

The court also heard about Plumb’s previous failed kidnap attempts between 2006 and 2008, involving a 16-year-old girl and two other women.

In October 2023, Plumb discussed his plans with a person he believed to be David Nelson, revealing his graphic and sexually motivated intentions. Unbeknownst to Plumb, he was actually communicating with an undercover police officer, leading to his arrest.

Holly Willoughby waived her right to anonymity during the trial. The proceedings continue, with the trial expected to last two weeks.
