During the award season, Karla Sofa Gascón, Selena Gomez, and Zoe Saldaa collaborate to create a movie-musical that stands out for its powerful and passionate nature.
On August 26, Netflix made available the first trailer for the Spanish-language French film Emilia Pérez. The film is a Spanish-language French production.
The film is described as “an audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations,” and Gascón, who is 52 years old, plays the role of a cartel boss in Mexico who seeks to fake her death. The storyline summary of the film describes the film as “an audacious fever dream.” The film also has Saldaña, who is 46 years old, and Gomez, who is 32 years old. Additionally, the film also features Edgar Ramírez and Adriana Paz.
At the Cannes Film Festival, which took place in May of 2024, the movie was shown for the very first time anywhere in the world. In the description of the film that was shown at that festival, it is said that Gascón plays a character who goes through a transformation as they grow closer to the point where they are eligible for retirement.
“Through liberating song and dance and bold visuals, this odyssey follows the journey of four remarkable women in Mexico, each pursuing their own happiness,” according to the summary that has been published.
“The fearsome cartel leader Emilia enlists Rita (Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so that Emilia can finally live authentically as her true self.”
The French filmmaker Jacques Audiard’s film Emilia Pérez, which he also wrote and directed, received two awards at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The awards were given in recognition of the film’s ensemble of female characters. These honours included the award for the finest actress, which was one of them.
On the 19th of August, Gomez posted a video to Instagram that detailed the moment she found out that she had been cast in the film. The video captured the moment she received the news. It was recorded on tape that she was straining to suppress her tears as soon as she received the phone call.
It’s hard for me to comprehend that I was able to get the movie! From what can be heard on the video, she can be heard saying, “I’m so going to cry right now, and I don’t want to cry.” This is something that she is speaking about.
On November 1, Emilia Pérez will be made available in a number of theatres, and on November 13, it will be made available to view on Netflix.
