During his time at the 2024 Olympics, the American rower Justin Best won twice as many races as he had previously won. At the same time that he became engaged to his fiancée of nine years, Lainey Duncan, he brought home the first gold medal for Team USA in the discipline in sixty years by winning the competition.

During the live broadcast of the Today show on August 5, the sportsman proposed to Duncan in the presence of family members who were clutching 2,738 yellow roses. These roses were a representation of each day that the couple had kept their daily streak on Snapchat over the course of their relationship.

“My other half is Lainey,” I said. According to what Best shared with PEOPLE, “She is incredible in terms of her intelligence, effortlessly beautiful, boundlessly creative, and she exudes kindness to everyone she does meet.” “Throughout our adult lives, we have been through everything together, and I have witnessed her transformation into an incredible woman. She has also been a significant influence on my development into the man I am today.”

Best claims that “Paris is Lainey’s favorite city,” and he made the decision to propose to her after learning that the Games will be hosted in Paris. He knew that Paris would be the ideal location for the proposal.

In a humorous remark made on Today, he stated, “I got the gold and the girl, and she got the diamond.”

Before the first ball even touched the pitch, Argentine field hockey star Maria Campoy would walk away from the Olympics with at least one prize: an engagement ring from her fiance, handball player Pablo Simonet. This would be the case even before the first ball touched the pitch.

During the course of a video that was uploaded to Simonet’s Instagram account, the handball and field hockey teams of Team Argentina joined together for a group photo. However, Simonet interrupted the photos in order to propose to Campoy. While Campoy was embracing her fiance, their teammates were cheering behind them. Campoy felt tears well up in her eyes.

The caption of the handball player’s post from July 24 said, “The woman in my life gave me a ‘yes’,” and it was written in Spanish. “In a dream place, where everything came from and where we fought so much to be.”

This occurred three years prior to the team’s participation in the Games. Both of their partners were waiting for them at the shore with rings, despite the fact that they had only won bronze.

During a news conference held following the medal race, Steyaert displayed her engagement ring and stated, “Of course, we had to say yes.” Together with her now-fiancé, she has two girls on her own.
