A girl, age 11, and a lady, age 34, were both transported to the hospital after being stabbed, and the police have stated that they do not believe there are any further suspects.
After a child of 11 years old and a lady of 34 years old were stabbed in Leicester Square in London, the Metropolitan Police have announced that a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
There were two victims, according to the force, and they were taken to the hospital. The individual is currently being held in prison, and it is believed that he is the lone suspect.
The woman’s injuries are reportedly less severe than those of the 11-year-old, who is reportedly in need of hospital care. However, it is believed that the injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
One of the security guards revealed how he “jumped on” the person who had stabbed the child and seized a knife from him. His colleagues had already offered first aid to the toddler earlier.
The security guard, who identified himself as Abdullah and was 29 years old, said, “I heard a scream.” I jumped on him, held the hand in which he was carrying a knife, and just pushed him down on the floor. I just held him and got the weapon away from him. At that moment, I realised that there was one individual who was about in their mid-30s or early 30s of age, and he was acting like he was stabbing a child.
Then, a couple of additional people joined in as well, and we simply held him until the police arrived. It took the police approximately three to four minutes to arrive, and once they did, they simply took him into prison.
Police have surrounded the double doors of the TWG Tea shop on Leicester Square after establishing a police cordon. Despite the fact that the cordon is located next to the Lego store and in front of the M&M store, families and tourists are still waiting in line for each of these options. There are at least six law enforcement personnel here at the scene.
Abdullah, who stated that he had been working in security at the TWG Tea shop for the previous “seven to eight months,” stated that his coworkers administered first aid to the child before the arrival of the police.
“Just now, I witnessed a child being stabbed, and I just made an attempt to save her.” It is my responsibility to simply save them.
He went on to say that he was unaware of whether or not the girl was with members of her family at the time.
The police department issued a statement that read, “Officers are currently present at the scene of a stabbing in Leicester Square.” A man has been taken into custody because he was arrested.
We do not believe that there are any suspects who are still to be found. Two victims, a girl on her eleventh birthday and a woman on her thirty-fourth birthday, have been sent to the hospital, and we are awaiting an update on their status.
According to the Guardian’s understanding, at this early point, it is not believed that the incident is tied to terrorism on any level.
