Taylor Swift thrilled fans when she performed an unexpected song with a special guest at her “Eras Tour” event in New Orleans on October 26.

Swift performed a cover song at the end of the event, called “surprise song o’clock,” rather than one from her 11-album career.

Throughout Swift’s touring career, she has generally performed a few songs at each event that are not on the standard setlist. The “Eras Tour,” which began in Arizona in March 2023 and will end in December in Canada, has featured surprise songs from Swift, including fan favourites and mashups.

But on Saturday night, Swift began the surprise song set by singing a few bars of one of the summer’s official songs, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.”

“I will be performing a song that belongs to an artist I admire, and I’m eager to hear how enthusiastically you can sing along.”“It’s been stuck in my head,” Swift noted on stage, before performing the chorus of “Espresso” with an acoustic guitar. Carpenter is currently on tour with her album “Short n’ Sweet” and has previously served as an opening act for the “Eras Tour.”

The enjoyment continued beyond that point. As seen in footage that fans have shared, Swift called Carpenter while she was on her show.

Carpenter returned to the stage alongside Swift to resume their performance of “Espresso” after a short discussion. Swift accompanied on guitar and provided harmonies in the background while Carpenter sang the song. Prior to the second line of the song, Swift asked, “I was wondering, I wanna do the thing can I do it?”

Carpenter nodded in agreement as Swift started to sing, “I’m working late ’cause I’m a singer.” In classic Swift style, that verse resulted in a mashup, combining “Espresso” with “Is It Over Now?” from “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”

Swift and Carpenter subsequently delivered a duet performance of another track from “Short n’ Sweet,” titled “Please Please Please.”

The mashup madness wrapped up fittingly with the phrases, “Let’s fast forward to 300 takeaway coffees later” and “That’s that me espresso” seamlessly intertwined.

“I’ve truly never experienced such jealousy in my life!” one TikTok user remarked.

“Wow, this is unbelievable,” another person commented.

Swift will wrap up her “Eras Tour” with three performances in Indianapolis, after one final show in New Orleans on October 27. Carpenter’s upcoming concert is scheduled for October 27 in Houston, Texas.
