There are many people calling for the US president to drop out of the 2024 election. Adam Schiff, a powerful lawmaker from Joe Biden’s Democratic Party, has joined them.
US media sources reported on Wednesday that Schiff said he has “serious concerns” about Biden’s chances of beating Trump in November, when he runs for president as the Republican candidate. Schiff, a US congressman who is likely to win an open Senate spot in California in the next election, said, “President Biden has every right to drop out of the race, but I think it’s time for him to hand the baton to someone else.”
Democrats’ top lawmaker Adam Schiff has asked President Joe Biden to “pass the torch” and not run for reelection in 2024.
“And in doing so, secure his legacy of leadership by allowing us to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election.”
Schiff is the latest Democrat in Congress to ask Biden to drop his reelection bid. Biden’s terrible showing in the debate at the end of last month made people question his age and ability to run for another term in the White House. People have asked the 81-year-old US president to step down so that Vice President Kamala Harris or another possible replacement can take over. He has refused, saying that he has more work to do.
“I have to finish this job because so much is at stake,” Biden told reporters last week in Washington, DC, after the end of a NATO meeting.
