The Uruguayan international issued an earlier apology for comments he made during a television interview. Son, the captain of the club, referred to these remarks as “mistakes.”
Rodrigo Bentancur, a midfielder for Tottenham, has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for making a remark that was racially insensitive regarding Son Heung-min, the captain of the club.
When a host of a local television program asked the Uruguay international basketball player for a Spurs player’s shirt, he responded, “Sonny’s?” As they all have the same appearance, it is also possible that it is Sonny’s relative.
The 27-year-old person immediately apologised on social media for the comment, calling it a “very bad joke.”
The anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out, on the other hand, reported that it had received a “significant number” of complaints, which were then forwarded to the club as well as the other “relevant authorities.”
After some time had passed, Son, who is the captain of South Korea, stated that his teammate had “made a mistake.” He went on to say that they were “brothers” and that “nothing has changed at all.”
On the other hand, the Football Association (FA) made the announcement on Thursday that Bentancur had been charged with a violation of its regulations regarding misbehaviour.
“It’s alleged that the Tottenham midfielder has breached FA Rule E3.1 as he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or brought the game into disrepute,” the governing body stated in a statement released today.
“It’s further alleged that this constitutes an ‘aggravated breach’ which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as it included a reference, whether express or implied, to nationality and/or race and/or ethnic origin.”
According to the FA, Bentancur had until September 19 to present a response to the charge that was brought against him.
In response to the insult, Bentancur sent the following message on Instagram: “Sonny brother! My sincere apologies for the unfortunate event that transpired; it was really a very poor prank.
“We fully support that our captain Sonny feels that he can draw a line under the incident and that the team can focus on the new season ahead,” Tottenham stated in a statement in June. “We are fully optimistic about the future of the team.”
“We are incredibly proud of our broad fans and playing squads, who are located all over the world. At our club, in our game, and in society as a whole, there is absolutely no room for any type of discrimination.
Son was cited by the club as stating, “I’ve spoken with Lolo [Bentancur],” which was included in the next post. He is aware that he has committed a mistake, and he has sent an apology.
It is not possible for Lolo to purposely say something that could be considered offensive. Since we are brothers, there has been absolutely no change at all.
“We have moved on from this; we are a unified team, and we will come back together during the preseason to put up a united front for our club.”
