To protest the “patriotic rally” that Tommy Robinson was in charge of, the Stand Up To Racism organization and the Peace & Justice project of former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn have organized a counter-demonstration. The purpose of this counter-demonstration is to show opposition to the rally.
There were thousands of people who came together to show their support for Tommy Robinson at a demonstration that took place on Saturday in the district of London.
It was the far-right activist, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley Lennon, who was responsible for organizing the ‘unity’ march that took place from the Royal Courts of Justice to Trafalgar Square.
The gathering provoked a counter demonstration by a number of organizations, including Stand Up To Racism and Jeremy Corbyn’s Peace & Justice group. An estimated 1,000 Metropolitan Police officers were dispatched to the location in order to keep a watch on the gathering.
During their march from Russell Square to Whitehall, the counter-protesters received backing from a variety of organizations, including the Stop the War coalition, Unite Against Fascism, and a number of other trade unions.
The Strand was swamped with demonstrations by supporters of Mr. Robinson, who carried flags symbolizing England, Scotland, Wales, and the United Kingdom. These demonstrations took place outside of the Royal Courts of Justice.
It was reported that individuals were chanting phrases such as “we want our country back,” “we want to rule Britannia,” and the name of Mr. Robinson.
One person was wearing a T-shirt with the words “I identify as English,” and other people were holding Donald Trump-related memorabilia.
As soon as the protesters got to Trafalgar Square, they were given a concert by a band, and Mr. Robinson then addressed the crowds that had gathered there.
After making the following assertion on social media in the wee hours of Saturday morning, the far-right activist energized his supporters in preparation for the march by stating, “Today, the people of Britain will send a message to the world’s leaders.”
Colin Wingrove, the Chief Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police Department, who is in charge of the operation that will take place this weekend, issued a warning that the police will “intervene decisively” in order to deal with protestors who violate the stringent rules of when and where they are permitted to demonstrate. The warning was issued in order to deal with the protestors who violated the rules.
Moreover, he claimed that a “significant number” of police are currently on duty as part of “a carefully planned operation” in an effort to protect public safety and discourage criminal conduct. This is being done in an effort to prevent criminal activity.
