Following the emergence of a photo on Instagram that purports to show a women’s rugby player making a racist slur, the British Olympic Association has initiated an investigation into the incident. The post in question appears to show the woman using the insensitive term.
The appropriate authorities are currently looking into a conversation that Team GB and England forward Amy Wilson-Hardy and an unnamed third party are allegedly involved in. The conversation was captured on WhatsApp.
It appears that the woman, who is 32 years old, is wearing a facemask of a dark color, as stated in the picture that is contained within it.
The answering party is prompted to say, “I thought I’d have a better chance with the blacks,” as a result of the third party writing “genuine chocolate face” underneath the invitation.
When the photograph was shared on Instagram, the caption that accompanied it read as follows: “A little black face racism by @teamgb Rugby 7’s @amywilsonhardy, even joking she’ll have a better chance with the blacks.”
Officials from the Boxing Organization of America (BOA) are looking into a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation that appears to show rugby sevens athlete Amy Wilson-Hardy allegedly making a racial statement.
There was a screenshot that was obtained that purported to show Wilson-Hardy wearing a dark-colored facemask. The rugby sevens player was supposedly responding to a comment by saying, “I thought I’d have a better chance with the blacks.”
Wilson-Hardy was the starting player for the women’s rugby sevens team that prevailed over South Africa by a score of 26-17.
Yesterday, Wilson-Hardy, who made her debut for England in 2013, participated in two matches on Monday.
The Board of Directors of the Association did not wish to comment; however, they did say that they were aware of the post and were conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it.
In today’s victory over South Africa, which England won by a score of 26-17, Wilson-Hardy, who made her first appearance for England on the international stage in 2013, started the game. On the other hand, she was a member of England’s quarterfinal loss to the United States, which they suffered by a score of 17-7. This unfortunate event occurred later that day.
She is originally from West Sussex and holds a degree in engineering from Bath University, where she received her education. The year 2017 saw her being chosen for the Women’s Rugby World Cup squad, and the year 2018 saw her take home the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Wilson-Hardy has accumulated a total of forty points and has been awarded ten caps for the England national team.
The British Olympic Association (BOA) has issued a statement that reads, “The British Olympic Association has been made aware of an image on a social media platform and is investigating the matter.” A BOA spokesperson provided this statement.
