Former congresswoman Liz Cheney called Donald Trump an “unrecoverable catastrophe” during her speech on Sunday, and she urged her fellow Republicans to support Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the November election.
“We witness regularly an individual who resorts to violence in an attempt to gain and retain power—someone who embodies an irreversible disaster, in my opinion. It is crucial that we exhaust all efforts to prevent his re-election,” Cheney expressed in an interview
This week, a program on the network will be hosting the upcoming debate between Trump and Harris.
Cheney reiterated her support for Harris and encouraged prominent Republicans who have expressed their intention to write in a different candidate instead of voting for Trump to consider voting for the Democrat instead.
“When it comes down to it, all you have to do is grapple with your own moral compass while you are in the voting booth,” the speaker said. I would also expect a notable rise in the number of Republicans and independents, along with the understanding that when the moment arrives, they will need to make a choice, and it will be the correct one,” I commented. “Considering the tightness of this election, particularly if you anticipate voting in a state that is considered a swing state, it is crucial to go the extra mile if you genuinely recognise the threat posed by Donald Trump. If this is the situation, it is inadequate to simply state, “I will not vote for him.”
When questioned about her party affiliation, Cheney affirmed that she remains a conservative. She voiced her intention to “rebuild” the Republican Party after the upcoming presidential election on November 5th.
Trump, who has faced legal troubles for allegedly falsifying company documents and is currently dealing with additional charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, has failed to secure the support of several fellow Republicans. These Republicans have chosen not to endorse Trump.
Among them are Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland, former Vice President Mike Pence of the United States, former President George W. Bush, and Senator Mitt Romney of the United States. However, unlike Cheney, they have not expressed their endorsement of Harris.
After expressing his disapproval of President Trump and serving on the congressional committee that investigated the planned attack on the United States Capitol by Trump’s supporters in early January 2021, Cheney lost support from numerous Republican party members. She lost her re-election campaign in Wyoming in 2022 to a Democratic primary opponent who received support from Trump.
In a surprising turn of events, Dick Cheney, the former vice president of the Bush administration, has made a bold announcement. He revealed his intention to vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming November elections, a decision that goes against the grain of his own party. In his statement, Dick Cheney emphasised Trump’s efforts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election.
Harris told reporters at a campaign rally in Wisconsin on Saturday that she was grateful for the Cheneys’ support and that they shared her commitment to putting the country ahead of party.
