WNBA legend Sue Bird is going to acquire her very own Barbie doll.

WNBA legend Sue Bird has been transformed into a Barbie, bringing her from the court to the playground.

Mattel made the announcement on Tuesday, July 16, that the former Seattle Storm star, who is 43 years old, will be receiving her very own Role Model doll as part of the annual celebration of the legendary fashion toy’s 65th anniversary and the summer of sports campaign that the firm is implementing.

Krista Berger, senior vice president of Barbie and global head of dolls at Mattel, said, “Throughout her 21-year career as a trailblazer in the women’s basketball league, Sue Bird’s perseverance and authenticity have paved the way for more representation and attention on women in professional basketball and in sports.” Bird has been a pioneer in the women’s basketball league for the past 21 years.

She concluded by saying, “As we continue to celebrate Barbie’s 65th anniversary and champion women with inspiring stories, the Barbie brand is proud to welcome Sue Bird into the Barbie Role Model collection, with a shared goal of inspiring the next generation to pursue their passions.”

Additionally, the new Barbie has a body sculpt that is “Made to Move,” which enables the doll to flex its elbows and knees. This allows children to play with the doll and score layups, dribble around the defense, or shoot a three-pointer.

Bird stated that while she was growing up, there were no Barbie dolls that were specially designed to represent a particular athlete. She expressed her hope that her doll will encourage young girls to pursue their athletic potential.She continues, “This is going to have that impact of’seeing it and being it,'” and there is no doubt about it.
