In contrast to earlier reports that said he had voluntarily handed himself in, sources inside the EFCC have revealed that Bello was captured in a covert operation that took place at midnight.

According to Vanguard, an informant stated that EFCC agents located and detained Bello in Lokoja under the cover of night. This information disproved the allegations that he had voluntarily surrendered to the authorities.

She is currently at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja. Yahaya Bello, who once served as the governor of Kogi State, is currently there. According to the source, he was taken into custody in Lokoja, where operatives had been following him and later apprehended him at midnight.

In a statement that was released earlier, Ohiare Michael, who is the Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, asserted that the former governor had surrendered himself to the EFCC after conferring with his family, legal team, and political associates.

In the statement, it was emphasised that Bello, who is well-known for his respect for the rule of law, made the decision in an effort to clear his name.

According to a portion of the statement that Michael has released, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who had previously held the position of Governor of Kogi State, accepted the invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today.

This choice was arrived at after carrying out the necessary conversations with his family, legal staff, and political connections.

“Throughout the entire process, the former governor, who regards the rule of law and constituted authority with a great deal of reverence, had merely sought the enforcement of his fundamental rights in order to guarantee that he would be afforded due process.

The issue has been brought before a court that has the authority to hear it, and Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been adequately represented by his legal team throughout every legal proceeding.

It is essential that the former governor accept the EFCC’s invitation to clear his name because he has nothing to hide and nothing to be afraid of.
