The actress, who is a paid spokesman for Skims, is featured in the most recent bra campaign that the business has launched in collaboration with Susan G. Komen. The photographs for the campaign feature the actor’s double mastectomy scars.
Despite the fact that the 44-year-old is pleased with the way the photographs turned out, she shared with Savannah Guthrie, who is a co-anchor on “TODAY,” that the photo shoot ended up going in a completely different direction than what was initially planned.
It was just to do their shapewear and their new leggings when Skims approached me to do this campaign, and it wasn’t about my scar at all,” she revealed during an appearance on the “TODAY” show on Wednesday. “It was just to do their shapewear and their new leggings.”
During the process of changing her clothes, Munn slid into an item that would expose more of her scars. A makeup artist working on set began to cover them up, but she claimed that it was “just really difficult” to do so.
“At that moment, I was looking in the mirror, and all I could think was, ‘I’m done being insecure about my scars,'” Munn remembered. I then went to the team of Skims and asked them, “What do you guys think about showing my scars in this campaign?” and they gave me their response. And they were so nice, thoughtful, and amazing all at the same time. And after some discussion, we came to the conclusion that we should go ahead and execute it.
After receiving a diagnosis of luminal B breast cancer in April 2023, Munn has undergone a number of surgical procedures at this point. In the beginning of this year, she disclosed to people that she had undergone “a lymph node dissection, a nipple delay procedure (a surgical procedure that spares the nipples), and a double mastectomy.”
Furthermore, the celebrity underwent breast reconstructive surgery and started hormone suppression therapy, both of which resulted in the progression of menopause. Moreover, Munn underwent surgical removal of her fallopian tubes, uterus, and ovaries.
When Munn was thinking back on her most recent photo session, she described the event as “really scary,” but she expressed that she is glad that she went through with it.
“I feel like this is something I’ve been hiding for a long time now, and it just feels like I can breathe a little bit more,” she added. “It felt like I could breathe a little bit more.”
In addition, the mother of two hopes that she may encourage other women to recognise and appreciate their own beauty.
“Because I am aware that there are a great number of women who have scars that are identical to mine, I am aware that a great number of them feel the same way that I did for a considerable amount of time. She also expressed her hope that they will be able to view the Skims advertising. “Skims is so iconic and associated with beauty and sex appeal, whereas cancer really does not have that same connotation,” said the speaker to the audience. With that being said, I sincerely hope that other women who have been through the same experience as I have may feel a little bit better after viewing it.
Munn first learnt she had a 37% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer when her doctor calculated her breast cancer risk assessment score during a routine OB-GYN appointment.
The former star of “The Newsroom” advised ladies to learn their personal breast cancer risk and to not be afraid to advocate for their own health when they were having a conversation with Guthrie.
that. According to what she shared, “What I’ve learnt is that you have to go to your doctor and you have to bombard them with information, and you don’t stop until they give you the test that you need.”
